Shangri-La Farms CT Corp. and SLH Connecticut LLC v. Town of Stratford (tax appeals)

Docket: HHB-CV26-6107544-S, HHB-CV26-6107545-S (New Britain (Tax Session)).
Status: LIVE. Both appeals transferred to New Britain July 6, 2026; the town answered September 11, 2026; last orders October 5, 2026.
Parties. Plaintiffs Shangri-La Farms CT Corp. (personal property) and SLH Connecticut LLC (real estate), both giving a Columbia, Missouri business address. Defendant the Town of Stratford.
What the appeals say. For the October 1, 2025 grand list the Stratford assessor valued Shangri-La Farms’ personal property at 305 Hathaway Drive at $17,164,914 (assessed $12,015,440). The company says the property is manufacturing and processing machinery and equipment exempt under C.G.S. § 12-81(76) and that the assessor applied no exemption. SLH Connecticut, the owner of the real estate, says the $14,327,400 valuation (assessed $10,029,180) was grossly excessive and that the Board of Assessment Appeals left it unchanged.
What happened. Both appeals were filed June 5, 2026 in Bridgeport and transferred to the New Britain tax session on July 6, 2026. Shangri-La amended its complaint as of right on July 6. The town answered both on September 11, 2026, and the court granted motions on July 27 and October 5, 2026.
