Piepul v. Curaleaf, LLC

A former manufacturing and production manager at Curaleaf's Simsbury facility sued for disability discrimination after being terminated in December 2022 when, she says, the company would not accommodate her asthma. Docket: HHD-CV24-6187917-S (Hartford).

Status: CLOSED. Summary judgment for Curaleaf March 3, 2026 (Judge Halloran); Appellate Court appeal No. 49758 withdrawn August 7, 2026.

Parties. Plaintiff Lisa Piepul of Enfield. Defendant Curaleaf, LLC, 34 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury.

What the complaint says. Piepul was hired in December 2020 as manufacturing and production manager. She has asthma, which she says worsened in late 2021 because of the air in the production area. She alleges Curaleaf failed to accommodate her and terminated her on December 9, 2022, in violation of the Connecticut Fair Employment Practices Act, C.G.S. § 46a-60(b)(1).

What happened. Filed July 11, 2024. Curaleaf answered with special defenses in August 2024 and the case was claimed for a jury. After discovery disputes and scheduling changes, Curaleaf moved for summary judgment on August 15, 2025 on the sole failure-to-accommodate claim. Piepul responded in January 2026 and Curaleaf replied. On March 3, 2026 Judge Kaitlin Halloran granted summary judgment for Curaleaf; the memorandum of decision is published here. Piepul appealed to the Appellate Court on March 20, 2026 (A.C. 49758) and withdrew the appeal August 7, 2026.
