Respected Members of The General Law Committee [Names of Rep or Senator]*** ‼,
I am writing to urge you to vote against HB7181, support HB5429, and call HB6377 for a hearing immediately.
HB7181 – A Step Backward for Connecticut
HB7181 presents serious constitutional concerns and threatens the progress Connecticut has made in cannabis policy:
- Fourth Amendment Violation: This bill grants excessive law enforcement power for property seizures without due process, leading to potential unconstitutional searches.
- Tenth Amendment Overreach: It centralizes enforcement authority, stripping municipalities of local control and imposing unfunded mandates on local law enforcement.
- Excessive Civil Penalties: Fines of $30,000 per violation unfairly target small businesses and property owners, even if they are unaware of violations.
- Recriminalizing Cannabis: HB7181 undermines the state’s responsible cannabis legalization efforts, rolling back progress and promoting over-policing of cannabis-related activities.
This bill is a massive step backward and must be stopped. Please vote to kill HB7181.
HB5429 – The Right Step Forward
HB5429 strengthens and refines Connecticut’s cannabis laws in a way that protects businesses, consumers, and the state’s economic interests. The overwhelming public support for this bill shows it deserves to be drafted and moved forward.
Call HB6377 for a Hearing Now
HB6377 is another critical bill that must be heard immediately. Delays only serve to undermine fair legislative progress. Please call HB6377 for a hearing as soon as possible.
Summary of Action Requested:
- Vote NO on HB7181 – Protect constitutional rights and cannabis reform progress.
- Vote to draft HB5429 – Support legislation that improves Connecticut’s cannabis laws.
- Immediately call HB6377 for a hearing – This bill must not be stalled.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your support in ensuring fair, constitutional, and progressive cannabis policies in Connecticut.
Respectfully,
